Mayor Dade Royer
I am honored to serve you as the new mayor of Waynesboro. We were all very saddened by the passing of our former mayor, Richard “Dick” Starliper. Mayor Starliper served as mayor for almost 20 years, and an additional 16 as Borough Councilman. I have been appointed to fulfill the remainder of Mayor Starliper‘s term, which ends on January 5, 2026. As a candidate for mayor, I won the Republican primary and the Democratic write in nomination in May of this year. I will be the only candidate on the ballot in November. If I win the general election, I will begin a four year term on January 5, 2026.
A major responsibility of a borough mayor is to oversee the police department. I take this challenge very seriously. I have a two pronged approach to public safety. I believe in strict law enforcement, especially the distribution of illegal drugs. I will also be an advocate for drug prevention programs in schools and within the community. In addition to law-enforcement, I believe it’s very important for the police department to build strong relationships within the community. One example of this is National Night Out, which we hold every August. This is an opportunity for the community to engage with emergency services and other municipal agencies.
One of the challenges of the Waynesboro Police Department, and most departments across the county, is a shortage of police officers. We are especially looking for men and women from the local area to fill these positions. We believe local people know and care about our community, our culture, and will be more committed to their job because they live in the area.
